Chori Chori Chupke Chupke It stars Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji. Directed by Abbas-Mustan. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is one of the first Bollywood movie to handle the taboo issue of surrogate childbirth. Raj Malhotra (Salman Khan) and Priya (Rani Mukerji) are from respected upper class famlies. They fall in love and get married later due to miscarriage she becomes permanently infertile. On the doctor's advice, the couple secretly look for a surrogate mother to bear Raj's child. Raj meets Madhubala (Preity Zinta), a prostitute who agrees to have Raj's baby, for the money. After some much-needed grooming, Madhu meets Priya—who will be left unaware that Madhu was a prostitute—and the three depart for Switzerland together to carry out their plan. Soon Madhu is pregnant with Raj's child, and he happily tells his family that Priya is expecting. Meanwhile, his business partner is sexually harassing Madhu until she's ready to leave, upset at the thought that Raj told his friend that she is a prostitute (he didn't). Although Priya finds out about Madhu's past, she still believes that Madhu should carry their child, and she begs her to stay. Finally the partner assaults Madhu while (he thinks) she's home alone, but Raj saves her. Overwhelmed by Raj's kindness, Madhu falls in love with him. Raj's family suddenly arrives in Switzerland. While Priya reaches for pregnancy-simulating pillows, the family meet the heavily-pregnant Madhu and Raj tells them that she's a friend who's staying with him and Priya while her husband is business-traveling. Raj's grandfather (Amrish Puri) arranges a religious ceremony and tells Raj and Priya that they are going back to India; this also includes Madhu. The ceremony is very important so Priya sends Madhu as herself. The emotion at the ceremony is too much for Madhu and she becomes conflicted about giving up her child. Priya finds Madhu's room empty and the money dumped on the bed, and pursues her to the train station, only to slap Madhu when she confesses that she loves Raj. By the time Raj gets there, Madhu has gone into premature labor. The doctor announces that only one—Madhu or her child—can be saved, and Priya asks him to save Madhu. However, both mother and baby survive and seem likely to thrive. Madhu gives the baby to Priya, who quickly settles into a hospital bed with "her" baby. The doctor tells the family that Madhu's child was stillborn but has made a recovery. When Madhu is ready to leave, she promises Raj that she won't go back to prostitution. When he takes her to the airport he realizes that she loved him and kisses her forehead. Madhu leaves happily, ready and able to start fresh, as Raj and Priya start their own new lives as thankful and proud parents. Cast: Ajay Devgan, Rani Mukerji, Sonali Bendre Producers: Lalit Kapoor, Raju Narula Direction, screenplay: Milan Luthria Music: Sajid-Wajid There is no doubt Chori Chori is a formula film -- Khushi as the character with whom you can sympathise, Ranbir's attempts to make Pooja jealous, Khushi the orphan finding love in an overzealous family, the attraction between Khushi and Ranbir... all of these are cleverly manoeuvred into the script. And they succeed in tugging at your heartstrings. You can't help smiling when Ranbir and Khushi realise they are falling in love with each other or laugh heartily when a sedate Pooja takes an overenthusiastic Khushi out for lunch.
Mala works as a school-teacher. One day her friend confides in her about her love affair with the son of a wealthy man, who has been intimate with her, but now is marrying someone else. Mala accompanies her friend to this male's wedding, disrupts it, and eventually ends up getting it cancelled. The groom's brother, Raja, is enraged and insults Mala, in response to which she slaps him. Enraged all the more, Raja seeks Mala out, and in the presence of her pupils, brutally slaps and then rapes her. The police get involved and Raja is arrested. Raj's dad, Rai Bahadur Diwanchand, attempts to give some money to Mala's guardian, Gyani Kartar Singh, who refuses to accept it. The court case proceeds; the judge, overcome by Mala's evidence, finds Raj guilty, convicts him, and orders that he marry Mala in the next twenty-four hours. Raj attempts to kill Mala are in vain, and they get married without great pomp and ceremony. After the marriage, Rai Bahadur goes overseas and leaves his family, especially his elder daughter-in-law, Sharda, to deal with Mala and ensure that she is belittled, tortured, and eventually driven out of their house. Sharda's younger sister tries to make Raj get trapped in her love, but she fails because Mala insults her and goes to her sister. Sharda, her younger sister and a silly brother go to the airport which Raj reaches before they leave. The three make up lies that Mala told them to get out of the house. Raj gets upset, goes home and starts to beat Mala with his belt, but Kartar Singh gets there in time. Suddenly Raj's mama (uncle) shows up. He pretends to protect Mala and make Raj and Mala leave for their honeymoon, but Raj and his mama actually plan to kill Mala. The uncle leaves a snake in the house when Mala is having a shower. When she gets dressed, she sees the snake on the ledge of the window. She screams and faints. Raj and his uncle think that she's dead. When Raj tries to remove the sindoor on Mala's forehead the snake bites his legs. Mala gains consciousness and saves him by sucking the snake's poison. She faints again due to the poison. Raj starts to realise that she's really nice. She is saved and Raj and Mala gradually fall in love. But nobody except Raj's elder brother accepts Mala. When Raj decides to leave, his father hits Mala with a vase on her head and she is badly wounded. Raj takes her to the hospital. The doctor says she is in a critical condition. Raj's father comes to apologise and gets scared when the police comes to investigate the matter. When Mala regains consciousness, she saves her father in law by lying that she had an accident.
