The Truck Industry took more risks and chances than any other year in 2014. Now that the dust has settled Ford remains the top-selling pickup King, but with Chevy just having free reign on the midsize truck market and RAM getting unprecedented growth will that all change? There were a lot of changes for truck brands this year, so did any of the Big 3 change your mind, or are you sticking with the same truck brand as last year. Let us know in the comments below. The Detroit Auto Show is wrapping up today and there’s been one clear winner - Ford. Ford didn’t just have two of the most impressive performance debuts of the show - the GT 350 R Mustang and Ford GT Supercar, they also managed to reveal the 2017 Raptor and win Truck of the Year at the same time. And in Detroit, there’s nothing more important than trucks. In fact, the best selling vehicles this year were all from Detroit’s Big Three, and they were ALL pickups. This isn’t a new trend either, Ford’s F-Series trucks have been the best selling vehicle in the US for 32 years, but will Chevy’s new midsize segment or RAM’s unprecedented growth finally give the 3-decade-king a run for its money? Let’s find out. 4WheelOnline Intro Ford sold 750 thousand trucks this year, (Pulls out calculator) that’s an F-Series pickup sale every 41.8 seconds! Damn! And while Ford is the undisputed pickup champ, they sure weren’t shy about taking huge risks this year. In fact, in the 2015 model year Ford made the biggest changes of all, they switched the F-Series tried and true steel body to an all-aluminum design. Their bold philosophy was simple. A lighter truck means... a more capable and more productive truck. Aluminum isn’t the only big change Ford is making to their trucks. The 2017 Raptor’s 3.5L Eco-Boost V6 is further proof that Ford is also pushing for smaller but more powerful and efficient engines. And while it’s hard for us to argue with Ford’s numbers, I’m sure a lot of truck enthusiasts will miss the old V8’s deep grunt. Instead of just going head to head with Ford, Chevy went a different route. They opened up the war on all fronts with the return of the midsize Chevy Colorado pickup, and its been a huge success. That’s because before Chevy’s midsize rides... truck lovers really only had two choices for a pickup that could actually fit in their garage - Toyota or Nissan. With the 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, though, Chevy has now given us a much needed American option. So unless Ford wants to draft up plans for a new Ranger in the States, Chevy’s will continue winning this side of the market. RAM, on the other hand, had a massive 23.6% growth over last year’s sales. That dwarfs the progress of Chevy’s 10% spike or Ford’s 1% slip. RAM’s philosophy is the simplest of all: Steel bodies and Diesel engines. That’s not to say they aren’t making innovations though, their new EcoDiesel gets a class-leading 29 miles per gallon on the highway, and they didn’t have to change their body design to do it. So have any of the Big Three been able to change your mind? Or are you still sticking with the same brand as last year? Let us know the truck you’re going with in the comments below.
