Deuteronomy 17 - New International Version (NIV) Dramatized Audio Bible

17 Do not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep that has any defect or flaw in it, for that would be detestable to him. 2 If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the Lord gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God in violation of his covenant, 3 and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars in the sky, 4 and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, 5 take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death. 6 On the testimony of two or three witnesses a person is to be put to death, but no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness. 7 The hands of the witnesses must be the first in putting that person to death, and then the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from among you. Law Courts 8 If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge—whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults—take them to the place the Lord your God will choose. 9 Go to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office at that time. Inquire of them and they will give you the verdict. 10 You must act according to the decisions they give you at the place the Lord will choose. Be careful to do everything they instruct you to do. 11 Act according to whatever they teach you and the decisions they give you. Do not turn aside from what they tell you, to the right or to the left. 12 Anyone who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the Lord your God is to be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel. 13 All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not be contemptuous again. The King 14 When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,” 15 be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses. He must be from among your fellow Israelites. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not an Israelite. 16 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” 17 He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold. 18 When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. 19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees 20 and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

The Holy Bible (KJV) _ Deuteronomy 17

Deuteronomy Chapter 17 (Deuteronomy 17:1 KJV) - Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God [any] bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, [or] any evilfavouredness: for that [is] an abomination unto the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 17:2 KJV) - If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant, (Deuteronomy 17:3 KJV) - And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; (Deuteronomy 17:4 KJV) - And it be told thee, and thou hast heard [of it], and enquired diligently, and, behold, [it be] true, [and] the thing certain, [that] such abomination is wrought in Israel: (Deuteronomy 17:5 KJV) - Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, [even] that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die. (Deuteronomy 17:6 KJV) - At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; [but] at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. (Deuteronomy 17:7 KJV) - The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you. (Deuteronomy 17:8 KJV) - If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, [being] matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose; (Deuteronomy 17:9 KJV) - And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment: (Deuteronomy 17:10 KJV) - And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee: (Deuteronomy 17:11 KJV) - According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee, [to] the right hand, nor [to] the left. (Deuteronomy 17:12 KJV) - And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:13 KJV) - And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously. (Deuteronomy 17:14 KJV) - When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that [are] about me; (Deuteronomy 17:15 KJV) - Thou shalt in any wise set [him] king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: [one] from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which [is] not thy brother. (Deuteronomy 17:16 KJV) - But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. (Deuteronomy 17:17 KJV) - Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. (Deuteronomy 17:18 KJV) - And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of [that which is] before the priests the Levites: (Deuteronomy 17:19 KJV) - And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: (Deuteronomy 17:20 KJV) - That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, [to] the right hand, or [to] the left: to the end that he may prolong [his] days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

Capital Punishment: The Bible Demands It (Deut 17:1-13)

Capital Punishment: The Bible Demands It (Deut 17:1-13)

Death penalty and the Bible. What does it say? Well, there are many Bible verses that demand capital punishment for certain violations of the law. A study in Deuteronomy 17. Prison systems are not approved under God's law. Violators of the law paid restitution for crimes like stealing, received a public beating such as whipping, or they received the death penalty. You see, according to God's law no criminal has the right to sit in a prison cell funded by taxpayer money. Think about it for a moment. Is it justice to force victims of crimes to pay for the housing of those who committed crimes against them? That's what happens today, and that is the idiocy of our current correctional system. These are the crimes for which the death penalty is required under God's law: Murder (Gen 9:5-6; Num 35:16-21, 30-33; Deut 17:6; Lev 24:17) Rape (Deut 22:25) Sodomy (Lev 18:22; 20:13) Adultery (Lev 20:10; Deut 22:21-24) Bestiality (Ex 22:19; Lev 20:15-16) Incest (Lev 20:11-12, 14) False Witness involving a capital offense (Deut 19:16-20) Kidnapping (Ex 21:16; Deut 24:7) Witchcraft (Ex 22:18) Human Sacrifice - Abortion? (Lev 20:2-5) Blasphemy (Lev 24:11-14, 16, 23) Striking or cursing a father or mother (Ex 21:15, 17; Lev 20:9) Non-correctable juvenile delinquents (Deut 21:18-21) Sacrificing to false gods (Ex 22:20) False Prophets (Deut 13:1-10) Contempt of court (Deut 17:12) Sabbath desecration, now superseded per Col 2:16 (Ex 35:2; Num 15:32-36) A priest's daughter who commits fornication (Lev 21:9) What about society? Isn't society to blame for people committing such acts? Wrong. God holds individuals responsible for their own actions. One cannot blame society or plead insanity. They must pay for their actions. At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. --Deuteronomy 17:6 By Pastor Ben Heath Subscribe to the Daily Manna: http://christianovercomers.com/blog/the-daily-manna/
